History

Ham and Doulting Stone Ltd, was set up 12 years ago and is jointly owned & run by father and son team, Richard & Zak England. Based in Somerton, Somerset, England it is a small family business employing 10 people but which is known globally for its quality stone.

houseRichard England's first foray into the stone industry was in the late 1960's working in demolition and stone reclamation. This led to the founding of 'Richard England UK' which in turn became 'Ham And Doulting Stone Co.' in the mid-90's. Their first big job was being involved in the construction of the Quedam Centre, Yeovil, Somerset in the 1980's.

Ham and Doulting were also involved in the construction of Poundbury village, Dorchester, Dorset. and has supplied resources for historic buildings such as Montacute House, Hestercombe House, Highgrove House & Cheddington Court. The company played a key part in vital church restoration during the 1970's & 80's including the restoration of St James' Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds. Their projects have been commissioned worldwide taking them to places as far away as the U.S.A, Japan, Norway, France, Italy and the Virgin Islands. On top of all this, Ham and Doulting have done work for celebrities such as Cliff Richard and Clint Eastwood.

The company has won gold and silver medals at the Chelsea Flower Show; the former awarded for a recreation of a ruined room of Sudeley Castle adorned with plants and foliage. They are currently involved in a stone-for-stone rebuild of a medieval tithe barn in Hazelbury Plucknett, Somerset.
